Perhaps the most storied student co-op in Austin, 21st Street Cooperative is a campus institution. Architecturally compared to a tree-house, the co-op is home to an active and close-knit community of passionate, fun-loving students, from engineering grads and aspiring nurses to chefs and artists. Cozy rooms are joined in suites that encourage members to meet and interact, and it’s not uncommon for members to make lifelong friends while living here. The co-op also has plenty of outdoor space, including lawns, porches, gardens and a fire pit.
Like other College Houses co-ops, 21st Street Co-op offers its members meals cooked in its community-run kitchen. Members contribute a few hours each week of work called “labor” to cook, clean, run meetings, and other tasks to keep things running smoothly. Being a member also means that you get to vote at house meetings and decide house rules.
21st Street has been keeping Austin weird since well before that was a thing people slapped on T-shirts, and you’re invited to join us!
